London Cargo Bike Festival – 10 May 2024

The London Cargo Bike Festival 2024 is a family-focused day, designed to inform and inspire people about the wide range of cargo bikes on offer. You can try out a range of cargo bikes on a safe test track and find out more about servicing, maintenance, training, and safety.

The festival will offer:

•            Cargo bike test rides with dozens of different brands for all cargo bike uses, whether it’s the school run, daily commute, or weekly shopping trips

•            Expert advice from cargo bike retailers and manufacturers

•            A chauffeur-driven cargo bike taxi experience

•            Supervised children’s balance bike area

•            Food and drink stalls

•            Music, bubbles, and family entertainment!

Cycling support

As spring is just around the corner, why not try out something new and give cycling a go? The Big Shift has several projects to help both experienced and inexperienced cyclists get on their bikes.

Bike Markets

Bring along your outgrown, unwanted bikes to the market and put them to good use and donate them to a great project.

All donated bikes will be serviced by upCYCLE and checked by a qualified mechanic to ensure they are in good working order. The bikes will then be sold at bike markets run by Peddle My Wheels, with 100% of all sales proceeds going back to upcycle.

Dr Bike

Experienced mechanics will give your bike a FREE safety check.

Qualified mechanics check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes, gears, and tyre pressure, to lights, racks, pedals, saddles, and more.

For anything that can’t be fixed there and then, the mechanic will explain what needs doing and provide an estimated cost to fix at a bike shop.

We are writing to inform you about three new changes to parking charges being proposed as part of Lambeth Council's commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2030.

As someone who may be interested in these changes, we would like to ask your opinion.

The proposed changes include:

• extending emissions-based charging for motorcycle resident permits;

• extending the diesel surcharge to diesel vehicles that are Euro 6 compliant;

• introducing a surcharge for second and subsequent permits within the same household

Around a quarter of Lambeth's annual emissions are caused by vehicles, despite the borough having one of the lowest car ownership rates in London.

In the next six years, we need to reduce the amount of traffic on our streets by 27% and this will require a mixture of helping people switch to other forms of active travel, whilst also ensuring the price of kerbside parking reflects the impact the emissions have on our shared environment. This is in line with our kerbside strategyadopted in January 2023.

We believe these proposals will:

• Reduce parking pressures

• Relieve congestion

• Improve air quality by reducing carbon emissions

We'd like to invite your views on these proposed changes so we're running a statutory consultation until Friday, 23 February 2024.

We’re excited to share the design for the Elm Park shopping parade. Thank you to everyone who participated in our engagement activities. Your contributions have enabled us to design a space uniquely tailored to your community.

Planned changes, set for implementation in the Spring 2024, aim to encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling while boosting the local economy and making Tulse Hill more resilient to climate changes. The improvements support Lambeth Council’s Kerbside Strategy, which intends to dedicate a quarter of road space to sustainable uses by 2030, aligning with our Climate Action Plan.

It will bring the total number to over 240 meaning that most residents will be able to reach a bay within a 5-minute walk. This forms part of a commitment in Lambeth’s Kerbside Strategy  to expand the coverage of rental e-scooter and e-bike services across the whole borough. 

By January, rental e-scooters will be permitted for use in the south of Lambeth. They have been available for use in the north of the borough since Lambeth joined a trial scheme run by Transport for London and London Councils in July 2021. 

The new bays are being installed through Experimental Traffic Orders. Residents who would like to participate in the consultation for the new bays can do so by visiting our consultation page.

Community Fund Parklets Phase 2

Applications for Community Fund Parklets phase 2 are now open!

A parklet is a tiny park, taking up just one parking space. It provides residents with an opportunity to create a space that works for their community. Successful applicants can choose from our catalogue to customise their parklet, choose from foldable seating, planters, game boards, notice boards and more.

Car Free Days

Throughout September, Lambeth saw several Car Free Days.

The Hannen Road Big Shift car free day held workshops for residents and visitors to share their views on how they use the space. The closure was made possible by the collaborative efforts of Station to Station Business Improvement District, A Small Studio, Soak Up Lambeth, University of Greenwich and Lambeth’s Big Shift. The goal was to reimagine Hannen Road in a way that works for everyone as it moves to a more sustainable future.

Hannen Road was located as a spot for potential Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) installation. SuDS help improve climate resilience in an area by improving the drainage of rainwater via sustainable means, as opposed to older forms of drainage that rely on outdated systems that are no longer fit for purpose. Hannen Road was located as a potential area as it lies uphill and can therefore collect rainwater as it falls before it flows downhill and causes flooding. The Big Shift car free day served as the first phase of the co-design process. Co-design allows for all parties involved to have their ideas and needs taken into consideration before any plans are drawn up. By using co-design, the Council aims to create a space that works for everyone.

Voltaire Road closed to vehicles for 4 weekends throughout September as part of Big Shift car free days project. Local businesses spilled out into the street and created more spaces for visitors to enjoy. The opening of the space for public use proved to be a positive change as many visitors shared their feedback with the Council.

Finally, National Car Free Day was celebrated on Goding Street. The street was filled with activities for the family and opportunities for people to learn more about active travel.

Car Free Days can take place in many different forms. But ultimately, they each aim to reimagine spaces away from being a place purely for cars. The Big Shift is looking to provide more opportunities for communities and businesses to give Car Free Days a go.

Community Influencers

Say hello to Lambeth’s 2023/24 cohort of Community Influencers!

Over the next year these beginner cyclists will embark on their biking journeys. We will chronicle their progress throughout the year and use their experiences to help inspire others to give it a go. The influencers will be given information to help signpost others to cycling support, so if you see them at an active travel event, say hello!

West Norwood Shared Electric Van

Station to Station business improvement district (BID), Lambeth Council and Zipcar have partnered to provide an electric van for members of the BID to use. The van will help local business to reduce emissions and local traffic as outlined in the Kerbside Strategy.

Hannen Road Car Free Day

This Sunday Lambeth’s Big Shift is closing Hannen Road in West Norwood for the day. This closure will coincide with monthly Norwood Feast local street market.

This event is about reimagine Hannen Road as a commute friendly and more sustainable space. There will be a variety of workshops for children and adults throughout the day. These workshops are run by A Small Studio and Station to Station to gather locals’ opinions about how the space could be better suited to its current uses.

Come join us from 10am to 4pm on Sunday the 3rd of September to take a look, share your views, and enjoy some local produce!

National Car Free Day

Lambeth Council will be celebrating Car Free Day on Saturday 23rd September on Goding Street (SE11 5AW), just off Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, from 12 to 5pm.

There will be fun and interactive activities for the whole family including:

• Children's scooter obstacle course and an opportunity to win a children's scooter

• A pedal smoothie bike giving out free smoothies

• Children's arts and crafts workshops

• Adult bike repair workshops

• A Dr Bike mechanic who will check your bike for free

• Adapted bikes for disabled people to try

And much more!

You don't need to book anything and all the activities are FREE, just bring yourself and your friends and family for a fun-filled day out!

Voltaire Road Car Free Days

Starting on the 8th of September we are closing Voltaire Road from Old Station Way to Clapham High Street. The closure will occur every weekend from 6pm Friday to 6pm Sunday, ending on the 1st of October.

The road closure will see local businesses spilling out onto the street to enjoy the space. There will be additional seating in the road and every Saturday from 4pm to 8pm live acoustic music will take place.

Why not pop over this September to enjoy the street, music and food!

Bike the Borough

On the 18th of July six Lambeth primary schools took part in the Bike the Borough event. The children took to the streets as part of a mass bike ride between Clapham Common and Brockwell Park.

The inaugural Bike the Borough event saw more than 80 school children showcase cycling skills while being supported by school staff, cycling police officers and instructors from Cycle Confident.

The Bike the Borough event was organised through Lambeth Council’s Big Shift programme to encourage people to consider more sustainable and active ways to move around their local areas.

The event was a great success with everyone involved having a great time. We hope to make it even bigger and better next year.

Community Influencers

We are looking for 30 new Lambeth Community Influencers.

Have you thought about cycling but don’t know where to start? Would you like to bike to work but aren’t confident on the roads? Becoming a Community Influencer is a great place to start!

Peddle My Wheels and Lambeth’s Big Shift have partnered for a second year of the Community Influencer programme. Successful applicants will receive a free cycle and cycle accessories as well as being supported with training, maintenance, and insurance from Peddle My Wheels.

Influencers will join our media campaign and help promote cycling around Lambeth. We’re looking for people to help encourage others to cycle in their communities by posting to social media, coming to active travel events and many more exciting opportunities.

Parklets

Applications for a Community Fund Parklets are now open.

A parklet is an old parking space that has been transformed into a space for a community to rest and socialise, while also bringing some much-needed greenery to residential streets. Parklets can also provide a space to lock up bikes or even sensory play opportunities for children.

Applying to become a parklet keeper means that you will have the chance to design a parklet for your road. Parklet keepers are responsible for maintaining and caring for the parklet and ensuring that it is a welcoming place for the whole community to enjoy.

OurBike

Join Lambeth’s e-cargo bike hiring scheme today and get 60 minutes free if you’re a resident or 180 minutes free for your business. After that it’s just 75p per 15 minutes, making it one of London’s cheapest bike hiring schemes.

OurBike can be used to transport a wide range of items: parcels, recycling, cakes, even people. The Ridgeback MK5 bike can carry up to 150kg (including the weight of the rider) and comes with a bench that can seat 2 children.

If you have never used an e-cargo bike before you can book a training session for free with a member of the team. For more information about riding an e-cargo bike, check out the OurBike website.

The new app is simple to use. Either download it from the Play Storeor App Store, sign up and book your time slot.

As of the 1st of July 2023:

• All new businesses that sign up will receive 180 minutes free use.

• All new resident signups will get 60 minutes.

After that it’s only 75p per 15 minutes.

Cycle Confident Summer Cycle Training

Lambeth Council with Cycle Confident are providing free cycle training for children during the summer holidays. There are courses suitable for all levels of ability, from complete beginner to on-road training and the training takes place in small groups with 2 fully trained instructors.

Courses are running in Brockwell Park and Clapham Common during the month of August. Children are encouraged to bring their own bikes but there are also bikes available to borrow at Clapham Common.

Celebrating 100 years of Bike Weeks, this year you can get involved by arranging an event at your workplace or taking part in one of the many challenges arranged by Bike Week 100. Dr Bike sessions are free to attend, and experienced mechanics will check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes, gears and tyre pressure to lights, racks, pedals, saddles and more. Any minor adjustments that can be made will be done there and then free of change.

In the case that something can’t be fixed on site the mechanics will let you know exactly what needs doing and a rough guide to what it should cost and will point you in the direction of your local bike shop.

Simple and affordable, the Try Before You Bike scheme is the flexible bike scheme that will help get you cycling. Just choose your new bike and accessories using the helpful online tools, the bike gets delivered straight to your door!

In the coming months you’ll start seeing bright green wraparounds around many Lambeth lamp columns. This shows that a street based Electric Vehicle Charge Point (EVCP) is situated in the lamp column.

Lambeth now has over 260 residential lamp column based EVCPs, ensuring residents have access to a convenient Charge Point each with their own dedicated charging bay. Look out for new charging points in the coming months.

The ULEZ is expanding London wide and a £110m scrappage scheme for older vehicles will support low-income and disabled Londoners, charities, small businesses. Click here for more details.

The deadline for applications to the Community Fund Parklets is almost here. If you would like us to consider your application for the first phase of the project, please submit your application here by the 28th of May 2023.

If you are unable to complete your application before the deadline you can still apply. Submit your application as normal and we will add it to the waitlist.

A parklet is an old, transformed parking space created for community use. Parklets create spaces along the kerbside for communities to rest, play and garden. This is in line with Lambeth’s Kerbside Strategy and Climate Action Plan. Parklets are usually installed on residential streets. We will still consider applications for locations on high streets so long as they are not for a business.

Lambeth’s Big Shift Community Fund will fund 25 parklets, one in each borough ward. Residents will create and maintain the parklets in partnership with the Council.

This first phase of the programme will deliver 12 parklets.

In line with Lambeth’s Kerbside Strategy and Climate Action Plan, parklets open the kerbside to create places for people to rest, play and garden. The parklets will typically be installed on residential streets, although installation on high streets could take place where they are not for business purposes.

Lambeth’s Big Shift Community Fund will fund 25 parklets (one in each borough ward) which will be created and maintained by residents in partnership with the Council.

Lambeth Council is giving all Lambeth residents and businesses free OurBike minutes for the rest of April and all of May. This is in addition to the council subsidising the hourly rate to keep it at £3 per / hour.

Cycle Hangars

Lambeth Council are rolling out our next phase of cycle hangars onto your local streets. The 48 hangers will be installed from March – May 2023. This is just the beginning. We are working towards our commitment of 5000 more spaces by 2026.

Lambeth Bus Days

Lambeth Council is supporting students with special educational needs or a disability (SEND) to use active travel and rely less on private transport to help improve their independence and confidence.

The council runs a monthly Bus Day where children and young people with special educational needs are assisted to use the London bus network. The sessions take place on a moving red London double-decker bus and feature scenarios covering personal and road safety. Pupils meet the driver and ticket inspectors and have the chance to practise coping with issues like what to do if they get lost, witness a crime or get into trouble.

Community Influencers

We have a team of brilliant, friendly volunteers who are passionate about getting more people to try cycling as a green and healthy way to travel around Lambeth.

They’re all Lambeth residents, so they know the borough well.

Many of our volunteers didn’t cycle at first. They wanted to, but they didn’t have a bike, didn’t feel confident out on the road or hadn’t even thought about it until we introduced the Community Influencer Programme.

Your Streets Your Way

Get creative, reimagine your streets and have the chance to win up to £750.

Lambeth Council, in conjunction with We Made That, are launching the second instalment of the Your Streets Your Way street design competition.

Your Streets Your Way gives those who live, work or travel through the borough, the opportunity to transform one of 10 locations. The competition gives the opportunity to create spaces to spend more time, connect with each other or to make it more attractive to explore by walking, wheeling or cycling.

The first Your Streets Your Way competition was launched in 2021 and 8 locations were reimagined by our competition winners. 5 of the transformations have now been completed and the last 3 are in development. You can see the progress of the sites from Your Streets Your Way 2021.

OurBike

Get one to one training on how to use your local OurBike located outside The Mud Room, an e-cargo bike for all occasions – taking the children out, shopping or moving heavier items.

Lambeth residents and business can hire OurBikes at no cost for the first 2 hours every day.

upCYCLE LDN bike repair workshops

Lambeth Council has partnered with upCYCLE LDN to teach young people how to fix their bikes. This FREE basic bike maintenance course is aimed at 13- to 18-year-olds and will take place during the Easter break.

During the day you will learn how to set up a bike to fit, fix a puncture, adjust brakes and gears, and lubricate your chain.

Drinks and food will be provided on the day. All you need to bring is you, we'll provide everything else! Repairing bikes can get a bit messy, so make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirt on.

Cycle Hangars

Lambeth Council are rolling out our next phase of cycle hangars onto your local streets. The 48 hangers will be installed from March – May 2023. This is just the beginning. We are working towards our commitment of 5000 more spaces by 2026.

Community Influencers

We have a team of brilliant, friendly volunteers who are passionate about getting more people to try cycling as a green and healthy way to travel around Lambeth.

They’re all Lambeth residents, so they know the borough well.

Many of our volunteers didn’t cycle at first. They wanted to, but they didn’t have a bike, didn’t feel confident out on the road or hadn’t even thought about it until we introduced the Community Influencer Programme.

Following the decision to make the Tulse Hill low traffic neighbourhood permanent, dispensations are now available for blue badge holders here. More information can be found on the Lambeth Council website, and more information on the dispensation policy can be found here.

Peddle My Wheels are a local organisation that seeks to encourage cycling through a variety of channels. They are managing the Community Influencer scheme in conjunction with Lambeth Council to promote cycling amongst under-represented groups. Bicycles, maintenance lessons and training will be provided as part of the scheme to a limited number of successful applicants. To apply and see more, click here .

The Tulse Hill consultation is ongoing. We have had a strong response to the survey so far and would encourage those who are yet to complete the survey to do so by 11.59pm Sunday 19th December.

As always, our lowtrafficneighbourhoods@lambeth.gov.uk inbox is also open for questions and feedback. Since the start of the consultation on the 15th of November we have held five pop-up stalls at various times and place to provide residents with more information on completing the surveys. At the stalls we have had mechanics hosting Dr Bike sessions and Transport Police doing bike security marking, through a partnership with the UK’s largest cycle database BikeRegister.

Young people were asked their thoughts on the borough’s transport network at sessions in High Trees community centre.

Joyriders

Joyriders is an organisation that supports women to gain confidence in their riding skills to the point where they are happy and comfortable riding a bike independently. Since April 2021 they have trained 90 ride leaders and run 259 rides for 1600+ women, across 4 cities. JoyRiders' #WinterChallenge is their main fundraising event of the year. This year they are challenging you - and anyone you know who rides a bike - to help them reach a 100,000 mile target. All rides between 1st December and 28th February count... and you can either upload directly, or link to Strava to record your rides.

Brixton Hill

We want to ask you about the local issues regarding traffic, air quality, green spaces and the public realm in the Brixton Hill Area. We know that as we move into the future, the risks associated with our changing climate, such as flooding or extreme heat events, will increase. Therefore, we want to improve the local area to make it more resilient to the challenges of the future, whilst also creating a low traffic neighbourhood where it is easier and safer to walk and cycle for all.

A Brixton Hill Commonplace page went live 10th of December 2021, where you can leave your comments. For those who have not got access to the internet or would like to get involved in face-to-face or online events to have their say and help us design an LTN that works for everyone, here’s how else you can get involved:

Earlier this year the ‘Your Streets Your Way’ competition launched aiming to involve local people in designing changes on their streets that could be translated into real world projects. 10 locations were chosen across Lambeth's 5 low traffic neighbourhoods to be redesigned.

72 people submitted designs and judges awarded prizes for the categories of Winner, Runner Up and Judge’s Choice. Below are the winners of each location:

The scale of some of these projects mean they need technical expertise in order to develop the winning ideas into detailed designs- these will be managed by landscape architects at Sustrans . Other projects have designs that are ready to be translated on the ground, these will be managed and built by local organisation In-Use, Re-Use . All of the designs are subject to engagement from local residents and stakeholders.

• Tuesday 9th of November: Notice boards are being erected at winning locations to inform the local community about the project. The boards will include a QR code which links to an audio recording of the winners describing their designs and inspirations.

• The Sustrans team will be running pop ups at all of the sites to talk to the local community and stakeholders and have invited the winners to attend. See details below:

• Thursday 11th November: Roupell Park Estate Pop Up 3-5pm – Holmewood Road on the green space in front of Thursley House

• Friday 12th November: Bedford House Pop Up 11:30am-1:30pm – Hetherington Road pedestrian entrance to Bedford House

The national lottery community fund is offering from £1,000 to £10,000 of National Lottery funding to support communities across the UK to take action on climate change.

Projects should reflect what matters to your community and can be small in scale. They could cover an area like:

• food

• transport

• energy

• waste and consumption

• the natural environment.

You do not need to be an expert in any of these areas to apply. They are particularly interested to hear from people starting to think about taking action on climate change in their communities. To find out more information visit their site here.

On Tuesday 9th November at 4pm we will be hosting an online discussion that focuses on schools and their experiences of the Tulse Hill and Streatham Hill LTNs. Lambeth: Zero tolerance over LTN vandalism

Two people have been arrested in Lambeth following extra measures introduced to stop vandalism of signage installed by the council and plantings carried out by the community at the borough’s emergency Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes.

A man was arrested on Saturday, July 31 after allegedly spray painting signs at the Ferndale Road Low Traffic Neighbourhood, and a second man was arrested the next day after allegedly stealing a sign from the same scheme which is between Brixton and Clapham.

CCTV evidence has been passed to the police so further action can be taken.

The arrests follow Lambeth Council announcing on July 16 that new measures would be put in place to tackle criminal vandalism at the emergency Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes which are in place to maintain a safe street environment, support green transport options and improve air quality.

The eCargo Bike Grant Fund 2021/22 is open for applications. Apply here .

£400,000 has been made available by the Department for Transport in 2021/22 for the purchase of ecargo bikes, to support businesses switching to a sustainable transport solution.

• Funding covers up to 40% of the total cost of an ecargo bike, up to a maximum of £2,500 for two-wheel models and £4,500 for three-wheel models.

• Applications will be capped at five bikes per organisation. Larger applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• Applications may include more than one organisation. In these joint ‘high-street’ applications, a lead applicant will be responsible for submitting the application.

The application deadline is 14 December 2021. The claim deadline is 14 February 2022. eCargo bikes do not need to have been delivered for the grant to be paid.

Vandalism

Unfortunately, there has been repeated criminal damage to the signage, cameras and other equipment used across all LTNS. We want to thank everyone who has reported the issues to the council and patience as we work to resolve the vandalism.

It is costing the Council money to replace and repair equipment. Additionally, residents who have sowed plants and flowers at their own expense have in some cases seen them cut down or torn up.

Grow Back Greener Fund

The Mayor of London and Thames Water are looking for community projects that will improve access to greenspace. Funding of up to £75,000 is available to community projects that will make our city greener and help us adapt to climate change.

Citizen’s Assembly

Lambeth held an independent citizens’ assembly on the climate crisis, to come together and work towards a consensus on how we reduce the borough’s carbon emissions.

The assembly was made up of 50 randomly selected Lambeth citizens, who reflect the population of Lambeth. Participants heard evidence from different groups, including climate experts and local campaigns.

The GLA are looking for community projects that will improve access to green space and help us adapt to climate change.

A total of £1.2m is available in this funding round, across two themes: access to green space , and climate adaptation and water.

The Lambeth Street Design Competition was an amazing opportunity for local people to lead on how their streets are designed and created. 10 locations across Lambeth were up for redesign. Over 60 submissions from the local community were received. The competition was judged by people that work every day to make the local area the best place it can be. Judges chose the winning design, runner up and Judge’s Choice for each location. Winners have been announced, prizes awarded, and the designs will be built by the council.

Given a recent rise in vandalism, we discussed the ways teams within the Council are working together with the Police to both prevent and respond to instances of vandalism. Vandalism is criminal damage; it poses a threat to public safety and will not be tolerated. We are grateful to those who have reported vandalism to us. We received questions around monitoring in relation to the South Circular and Brixton Water Lane. You can read our monitoring strategy and stage one monitoring report online. Our stage two data is currently being analysed which will feed into consultation.

Residents wanted to know other ways the council are supporting more sustainable modes of travel such as more cycle storage, sign-posted walking routes, electric vehicle charging points and communications with freight to create greener delivery methods.

There were also many questions around how we will conduct consultation and make sure we reach beyond a digital audience. We will be sharing more information about this in due course.

The ongoing Citizen's Assembly on the Climate Change was sign-posted. 50 of Lambeth's residents are working together to recommend ways everyone in Lambeth can address climate change and its causes fairly, effectively and quickly. You can find out more here .

A small minority of people have taken to criminal damage by removing traffic signs in Ferndale LTN.

The removal of signs is not an acceptable form of protest. It is a criminal offence and puts local people, including children, at risk. Lambeth Council takes this very seriously and all vandalism is reported to the police for further investigation. Threats to residents and staff are also not acceptable and will be reported to the police for further investigation. We encourage anybody who feels unsafe to speak to the police.

We have traffic counts scheduled to take place in the coming weeks once all local streetworks are complete. We are also working on air pollution modelling that will indicate levels of NO2, PM10 and PM2.5 both prior to the LTN and currently. This data will be made available as part of the stage 2 monitoring along with a collation of all community feedback to date.

Over the borough: 20mph Banners

In April 2016, the speed limit on Lambeth's roads was reduced to 20mph. In March 2021, new and colourful banners were introduced across the borough to continue to remind drivers to monitor their speed.

Installed at over 150 sites across Lambeth, these banners provide a strong visual impact, raising awareness and reminding drivers that the speed limit of 20mph is the law.

Many Different Voices

Our Many Different Voices workshops kicked off this week introducing young people to the principles of urban design and the many different careers available with skills in research and design.

The competition remains open to all Lambeth residents aged 13-18, with the chance to win a skills training course with professional urban research and architecture studio DSDHA, £100 vouchers and limited edition Brixton Pound prints.

Tulse Hill LTN Stage 1 Monitoring:

Early results from our Stage 1 Monitoring Report are in and include the findings below:

• Across both internal and peripheral roads, the following overall percentage changes in counts were:

o Car: -14%

o Cycle: +59%

o Goods Vehicle: -1%

• Inside the LTN, there was a decrease in all types of motor vehicles, including cars (-35%) and goods vehicles (-17%), when compared with the baseline.

• Josephine Avenue has seen an increase in flows being the main access point to the northern part of the LTN, this should be improved with the introduction of the filter on Arodene Road.

Streatham Hill LTN Stage 1 Monitoring:

Early results from our Stage 1 Monitoring Report are in and include the findings below:

• Car traffic is down by 25% within the LTN overall.

• Palace Road has increased car traffic (77%) but goods vehicles are down by 36% and cycles are up 53%.

• Motor vehicle flows in the southern portion of the LTN have increased.

• Cycling is up by 135% across the whole LTN.

Following feedback from residents regarding parking issues that were caused by the interaction of Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) M with the LTN a recommendation for the 152 affected households outside the CPZ to have the ability to purchase permits for zone M was made on the 27/01/2021.

A decision to allow Hillside residents south of the modal filter and Palace Road residents west of the filter (highlighted in the above image) to purchase a zone M permit, for as long as the trial Streatham Hill LTN remains in operation was made on the 04/02/2021. Architects DSDHA will be running digital workshops throughout March/ April to help young people with their designs, you can sign-up via the competition webpage.

Based on community feedback and traffic data gathered during autumn 2020, we are working on alterations to the Ferndale LTN. This should address existing issues and lead to a truly Low Traffic Neighbourhood. We hope to share validated traffic data in a monitoring report in the coming weeks and the consequential changes to the scheme. We will be sending letters to all residents to notify them of the changes.

Vandalism:

We have an ongoing issue with signs being removed or damaged throughout the Ferndale LTN. We are working closely with our Safer Neighbourhood Team and residents to resolve this. It is really important signs remain-up to ensure drivers understand the road layout and ensure the safety of all road users including pedestrians and cyclists.

Father Nature has been busy! A planter and notice board was installed in Dorset Road outside the shopping parade and Broadstone House. The notice board will provide an information point for members of the community to be informed about what is going on within the LTN and provide updates on the upcoming reviews, Q&A sessions and local projects.
